Meet the Authors: Innovative preschool leaders in Vietnam
The March/April 2019 issue of Childhood Education Innovations featured the article “Preschool Leaders as Enablers of Innovation: Emerging practices with preschool leaders in Vietnam,” by Lieve Leroy and Nguyen Thi Chau. The article explores the significant impact of context on the relative success of efforts to innovate in the classroom, and how school leaders can act as both gatekeepers and facilitators within their specific contexts. Lieve Leroy
As education advisor for VVOB Vietnam, Lieve provides technical advice, guidance, and support to the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training and to the Departments of Education and Training of Kon Tum, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai provinces in the field of early childhood education.
Lieve’s interest in education started while lecturing at Artevelde University College (Ghent, Belgium) and working as a speech language pathologist. She started working for VVOB Education for Development in 2001. Since that time, she has focused on continuing professional development, leadership, and change in education programs in Zambia, South Africa, and Vietnam. In close collaboration with local partners in the education sector, she has contributed to increasing access to equitable and quality learning opportunities for all learners while also facilitating networking and collaboration between education stakeholders.
Nguyen Thi Chau
Chau has worked for international non-profit development organizations in Vietnam for almost 25 years. She is very keen on working with people, learning from them, and sharing her knowledge and experiences. Throughout her career, she has built a strong expertise in capacity development.
She joined VVOB Vietnam in 2011 and had the opportunity to focus on the education sector. Currently, she is working in a program that aims to improve the quality of education at the preschool level, especially in three mountainous provinces in central Vietnam. As program coordinator, she supports, facilitates, and coaches teacher professional development activities for preschool teachers.
