Global Forum on Investing in Early Childhood
Follow-On Conversation - Leadership Matters for a Thriving Economy & Social Wellbeing: Ways Forward to Build Business-ECD Relationships
August 21, 2025

Online
Leadership matters to ensure a future of thriving economic growth and social wellbeing. Building upon key leadership themes from the Global Forum on Investing in Early Childhood that took place in April, participants will reflect upon their role as leaders and consider actionable ways forward to build business and child development partnerships for greater investment in early childhood at a time when strong, adaptable, and futures-thinking leadership at community and national levels is more important than ever.
The Global Forum highlighted the business case for investment in ECD, citing neuroscience and economic evidence. It also offered practical strategies supported by successful models from around the world that demonstrated the high level of impact ECD-business partnerships can have on families, communities, and nations.
From implementing child-friendly workplace policies, to developing comprehensive CSR/ESG strategies, to influencing public policy, the underpinning takeaway from the Global Forum is the need to elevate leadership capacity across both sectors.
Key leadership themes that emerged during the event include:
- Building strong communication and relationship-building skills, including consensus-building and negotiation, to foster trust and mutual understanding
- Advocating for economic and social interests through an asset-based approach that values diverse expertise and resources
- Strengthening systems-leadership competencies to inspire creative, strategic thinking and include diverse voices beyond traditional networks
- Adapting to a changing economic and development landscape by creating innovative solutions for investing in children and the future workforce
- Practicing compassion to shape a future where children thrive, families are supported, and economies and societies grow stronger.
Join us on August 21 to build upon these themes and explore:
What kind of leadership is needed to build trust, align interests, and foster sustained partnerships between early childhood development and the business sector—and how can ECD leaders strengthen the skills and mindsets required to lead this work effectively?
How can leaders serve to be a bridge and cultivate relationships with strategic vision to engage businesses as partners in meeting their communities’ economic and social development goals?

Why Attend?
It is important to convene and think of practical and innovative ways forward to strengthen business and child development relationships that meet local economic and social needs. This conversation is happening within the context of reduced global aid, recent international development and financing conversations, and ahead of the 80th UN General Assembly to ensure investment in children and education is prioritized by all nations and that business is a key partner for a brighter future.
